We wish to appoint a talented, enthusiastic and self-motivated qualitative researcher to join the Digital Health Research Theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration for Greater Manchester (ARC-GM), based at the University of Manchester.


You will need excellent skills in qualitative research methods developed in health or social care settings and a keen interest and/or experience in digital health technologies research.. 

 

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative digital interventions in health and social care across Greater Manchester, with a focus on evaluating how the introduction of digital technologies impacts decision making and behaviour of patients and clinicians.

 

All evaluations will have both qualitative and quantitative components, with qualitative and quantitative researchers working closely together. The post holder will lead the qualitative aspects of the research. They will use observational and interview-based methods to understand how interventions are implemented in practice and the factors affecting their adoption, use, safety, and effectiveness, including their impact on decision-making processes and behaviour. Integral to the post is engagement with stakeholders in health and social care, including patients and members of the public, around trust and adoption of digital technology.

The University of Manchester wish to appoint a Research Associate to join the Organising Care Research Theme within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration for Greater Manchester (NIHR ARC-GM), based at the University of Manchester. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to a programme of research exploring and evaluating current and emerging approaches to service reconfiguration and workforce planning, especially approaches to integration to provide care outside hospitals and the implications on access to care for patients. The post is available until 30th June 2023.

 

The NIHR ARC-GM (funded for 5 years) is collaboration between the University of Manchester and the health and care system of Greater Manchester. Our work is directly informed by the needs of both this system and the local population. Our over-arching goal is to improve the health of the GM population and the quality and sustainability of the health and social care they receive. We will achieve this by co-producing excellent research in areas prioritised by the system and by enhancing its impact through supported implementation into policy and practice. 

You will work with Dr Will Whittaker & Dame Nicky Cullum as well as other members of the Organising Care Research Theme. You will be located in the Manchester Centre for Health Economics within the Division of Population Health, Health Services Research & Primary Care, in the School of Health Sciences. 

 

Candidates will need a postgraduate degree in economics or health economics with a strong econometrics focus or postgraduate degree with substantial quantitative element and will need; experience of applied health research and policy evaluation, experience of managing and analysing complex survey and/or administrative data in STATA; and experience of submitting manuscripts in peer reviewed journals. Knowledge of the Greater Manchester health and care system, particularly primary care, is desirable.
