Closing workshop for the CKD project

To mark the completion of the successful second phase of its chronic kidney disease (CKD) project, GM CLAHRC is hosting a summit meeting to share the results. During the meeting, the team will share details of the project’s successes and the results of the work with the 11 GP surgeries that took part. Dr Donal O’Donoghue, CKD Implementation Lead, said: “The second phase of the CKD project has had excellent results and means more people with CKD are getting the treatment and care that they need. During the summit meeting, practice teams will be presenting case studies from their own work. We will also outline how the work carried out by the teams reflects the national need to improve how CKD is identified and managed in Primary Care.” The second phase of the CKD project began in March 2011 and lasted for 12 months. During that time 11 GP surgeries in NHS Wigan CCG, and NHS Salford CCG identified an additional 539 CKD patients, significantly more than their original target. The practice teams also succeeded in testing 83% (2,156) of their CKD patients for proteinuria and managing them to NICE recommended BP targets. The project summit meeting is being held at Leigh Sports Village, Leigh, on Wednesday 25 April.
