Congratulations Salford Royal for winning HSJ Changing Culture Award

GM CLAHRC is pleased to announce that its lead NHS organisation, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, was the winner of the Changing Culture Award at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Patient Safety Awards 2012. The award recognises the successful work the Trust has undertaken to create a culture which reinforces its values of patients and customer focus, continuous improvement, accountability and respect. In April 2010, Salford Royal devised and introduced its own performance framework, which incorporates the four values. Salford Royal’s unique and bespoke approach proactively connects individual behaviours and contributions to the Trust’s aims and goals, and begins to link an individual’s contribution to a system of rewards and consequences. Salford Royal Chief Executive David Dalton said: “Staff responded extremely positively to this new way of measuring performance, showing a great desire to create a better environment for patients and staff. “We are already seeing the results of this work, for example, the most recent Patient Experience Survey highlighted that 95% of patients would recommend our organisation to family and friends. Additionally, earlier this year the Trust emerged as the Best Acute Trust in the country in the NHS Staff Survey 2011 results. “We are delighted with the Patient Safety Award; it’s the second time we have won the Changing Culture category. In 2010 we picked up the award for our work to save lives and avoid harmful incidents to patients as part of our overall ambition to become the safest NHS organisation in the country.” The GM CLAHRC and Salford Royal’s Diabetes Team were also Highly Commended in the Primary Care category for “An innovative approach to providing lifestyle and behaviour change to prevent type 2 diabetes” whilst “Achieving turn around improvement in Haemodialysis Blood Stream Infections in the Trust’s Renal Network” which reached the shortlist in the Patient Safety in Clinical Practice category. The awards were presented at Lancaster Hotel, London, in conjunction with the newly launched Care Integration Awards.
