GM CLAHRC recognised at Salford Research Day

Several GM CLAHRC implementation projects were highlighted by some of Greater Manchester’s leading clinicians, at Salford Research Day, this week, as examples of how research has been successfully translated into practice for the benefit of patients.

The event, which took place at Salford Royal Foundation Trust on Tuesday 4 September, showcased recent clinical and basic science research projects associated with the Trust and highlighted examples of where the findings of such research has been successfully translated ‘from bench to bedside’.

Linda Savas, Knowledge Transfer Associate, GM CLAHRC and Katherine Grady Care Call Manager, Salford Diabetes Team, were invited to deliver a presentation on the IGT Care Call project. The presentation, entitled ‘An Innovative approach to providing lifestyle and behaviour change to prevent type 2 diabetes’, was awarded the prize for Outstanding Oral Presentation.

Professor Pippa Tyrrell, also mentioned the national success of the Greater Manchester Stroke Assessment Tool in her presentation ‘Developing new treatments for stroke’, with Professor Philip Kalra also making reference to the CLAHRC’s improving chronic kidney disease project in his presentation ‘Renal research in Salford.’

The day welcomed anyone working within the Trust and those involved with research projects based at at collaborating institutions to hear presentations from people who have lead and developed successful research projects. Delegates were able to meet those directly involved in the day-to-day running of projects, as well as those who work within the Research and Development department to facilitate a wide range of projects.
