Next generation of CLAHRC call for bids

The call for bids for the next generation of CLAHRCs has been formally announced by the Department of Health and the new, single-stage competition to designate and fund NIHR CLAHRCs opened on 9 January 2013. The Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, announced that £120 million will be invested in health research to support up to 12 NIHR Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (NIHR CLAHRCs) around the country. The scheme is part of the Government’s commitment to put the UK at the forefront of health research. Funding will be awarded for a five-year period, with the new CLAHRCs starting on 1 January 2014. The closing date for the submission of applications is 13 May 2013. The focus of the next generation of CLAHRCs will be on conducting high quality applied health research focused on the needs of patients, and targeted at chronic disease and public health interventions. Ruth Boaden (our current Deputy Director of GM CLAHRC and Professor of Service Operations Management at Manchester Business School) will be leading the bid for Greater Manchester. She will be working closely with Karen Luker (Professor/Dean of the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Social Work at The University of Manchester).
