NIHR launches “Focus on Stroke” as ground-breaking stroke trial opens in UK

EuroHYP-1, the largest worldwide clinical trial of a new revolutionary stroke treatment called Therapeutic Hypothermia, is due to open in the UK. The study is just one of those featured on “Focus on Stroke”, a new online resource from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) aimed at raising public awareness of the exciting developments happening in stroke research.

Speaking about the launch of the trial, Dr Jonathan Sheffield, CEO at the NIHR Clinical Research Network said:
“This trial means that we will be able to give even more patients the opportunity to help doctors and researchers to get an even deeper insight into stroke, and gather evidence needed to drive better treatments.

“Thanks to facilities like the Hyper-acute Stroke Research centres, England has the infrastructure to lead the way in stroke research and offer more effective treatments to stroke patients across the country.”

EuroHYP-1 is just one study featured on a new NIHR online resource showcasing the pioneering work top researchers are doing to tackle stroke.

A themed newsletter featuring the stroke-focussed work being undertaken by the 13 CLAHRCs across England was distributed to accompany the launch of Focus on Stroke and features CLAHRC Greater Manchester’s work on the Greater Manchester Stroke Assessment Tool (GM-SAT). View the newsletter.
