Prof Dame Nicky Cullum named new Head of School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work

Congratulations to Professor Dame Nicky Cullum, who has been appointed to the role of Head of School at The University of Manchester’s School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, starting in August 2015.

Nicky is CLAHRC Greater Manchester’s community services theme lead as well as a Professor of Nursing within the School. In her role at CLAHRC GM, Nicky leads the direction of our wound care and end-of-life programmes of work. After qualifying as a nurse and completing a PhD in pharmacology in Liverpool, Nicky worked as a health services researcher with a particular interest in wounds - at the Universities of Surrey, Liverpool, York and now Manchester. Nicky has been part of the creation of the NHS R&D Programme (which preceded the National Institute for Health Research), the Health Technology Assessment Programme and the Cochrane Collaboration and evidence-based nursing. She has been the Coordinating Editor of the Cochrane Wounds Group since 1995.

Nicky was made a Dame for services to nursing research and wound care in the 2013 Queen's Birthday Honours. Nicky succeeds Professor Karen Luker, CLAHRC GM Deputy Director, in leading the School.
