Prof Jacky Swan shares her cross-project learning expertise with CLAHRC Greater Manchester

Jacky Swan, Professor of Organisational Behaviour and a founding member of the IKON (Innovation, Knowledge and Organizational Networks) research unit at Warwick Business School, today (4 December 2014) gave a guest lecture on cross-project learning at an interactive workshop designed specifically for CLAHRC Greater Manchester staff. Jacky’s talk (view the slides) focused on opportunities for cross-project learning, difficulties that can be encountered along the way and possible ways to overcome them. The workshop, entitled ‘How can we make the whole greater than a sum of its parts? Cross-project learning in CLAHRC Greater Manchester’, took place at Manchester Business School and enabled CLAHRC GM staff to:

• Learn how to facilitate learning across projects
• Network with colleagues from different CLAHRC GM themes
• Share ideas about potential learning and collaboration across different research teams.

Jacky’s research interests are in linking innovation and networking to processes of managing knowledge and information. She has conducted research into the challenges of learning across projects and has recently completed a study of UK CLAHRCs focusing on the management of knowledge across the CLAHRC network. Jacky has been responsible for a number of UK Research Council projects and advises funding bodies on commissioning research. She has published widely in leading international journals, co-authored the book Managing Knowledge Work (Palgrave, 2009) and guest-edited several journal special issues. She is a senior editor for Organization Studies and has organised three major conferences in the UK, including the launch of the international conference series on Organisational Knowledge, Learning and Capabilities.
