Recruitment success for the BRIGHT trial

The BRIGHT trial team have successfully recruited 24 GP practices from Greater Manchester; 440 patients have agreed to take part in the trial. The trial will evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention aimed at addressing current gaps in care delivery for people with stage 3 CKD. It involves offering people tailored information about CKD, access to suitable community groups and telephone support.

The recruitment drive has been a major part of the team’s day-to-day work over the past few months. Participants have been recruited from four areas of Greater Manchester, including Ashton, Leigh and Wigan, Bolton, Salford and Stockport. Some of the practices involved previously took part in the early collaborative work from the implementation team and were willing to take part in the BRIGHT trial to further improve care delivery for patients with CKD.

Theme lead for the People with Long Term Conditions (Patients) Research Theme, Professor Anne Rogers said: “It’s fantastic that we have now recruited the patients we need to move forward with the trial. It has been an amazing team effort and everyone has worked extremely hard.”

All participants have now received personal visits from the research team, which were aligned to health care reviews with their GP or Practice Nurse.

The team are now busy compiling the baseline data and have begun collection of six month follow up data, working closely with trial participants and GP practices.
