Royal College of GPs name our research as their research papers of the year

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) has named two research studies funded by the National Institute for Health Research Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (NIHR CLAHRC) Greater Manchester as their research papers of the year.

The awards give recognition to an individual or group of researchers who have undertaken and published an exceptional piece of research relating to general practice or primary care.

‘Non-disclosure of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in primary care’ was published in the journal Social Science and Medicine and explores how patients learn about and react to a diagnosis of early stage CKD – particularly as some GPs routinely register patients as early stage CKD but do not always fully disclose the diagnosis to their patient. The paper was the overall winner of the RCGP’s Research Paper of the Year.

The second paper, entitled ‘Managing depression in people with multimorbidity: a qualitative evaluation of an integrated collaborative care model’, was published in the journal BMC Family Practice and explores whether collaborative care can potentially achieve ‘joined-up’ care in the NHS by supporting health professionals to treat both mental and physical health together. The paper won Research Paper of the Year in the neurology, mental health and dementia category.
