Teddy Chester lecture 2013 - Technology adoption in healthcare: what

A free lecture titled ‘Technology adoption in healthcare: what's the problem?’ will take place in Manchester on Tuesday 1 October 2013. The location of the lecture is Room G6, Manchester Business School, Booth Street West, M15 6PB. The session begins at 5pm with a networking reception, followed by the lecture and Q&A at 6pm, with a 7pm finish time. Manchester Business School is hosting a series of lectures in honour of Teddy Chester, as a reminder of his concern to connect theory with practice and a desire for academic work to influence, inform and improve the work of managers and leaders. Professor Trisha Greenhalgh OBE, Co-Director of the Global Health, Policy and Innovation Unit at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, will deliver the lecture. Professor Greenhalgh is dual qualified, having gained a BA in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1980 and a medical degree from the University of Oxford in 1983. She leads a programme of research at the interface between social sciences and medicine which seeks to celebrate and retain the traditional and the humanistic aspects of medicine and healthcare while also embracing the unparalleled opportunities of contemporary science and technology to improve health outcomes and relieve suffering. Her work covers such diverse themes as reclaiming narrative and literature as legitimate components of the medical curriculum; exploring how “rationing” decisions are made when demand for healthcare exceeds the resources available; studying the social, political and ethical implications of new technologies such as networked electronic patient records; and searching for better metaphors than “knowledge translation” to illuminate the complex links between research and clinical practice. She is the author of 140 peer-reviewed publications and 8 textbooks. To book a place at this lecture, or for more information, please email Helen.Power@mbs.ac.uk or call 0161 275 6352.
