STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION – Status: Request Open

Help with workshops! Improving family carers' mental health during end of life caregiving

Stakeholder consultation

We are looking for people to take part in workshops or focus groups to help us shape information to improve carers’ mental health during end of life caregiving.

Who is invited?

We are inviting carer organisation leads, carers, patients, health and social care practitioners, policy leads and commissioners (‘Stakeholders’)

Why?

Family and friends (‘carers’) provide invaluable help and support to people who are nearing end life. However, this can take a great toll on carers’ own mental health and wellbeing. Covid-19 has highlighted even more our reliance on carers and the pressures they face.

We have pulled together what is known in the research literature about what protects or worsens carers’ mental health and worked with carer advisors to organise and summarise this in ways they feel makes sense.

We are now asking for help from a wider group of stakeholders to tell us how we can communicate these findings in ways that are most useful to them, so that they can use the knowledge to improve outcomes for carers.

What will you be asked to do?

We are asking stakeholders for help with this in two ways:

  1. Online Zoom workshops: maximum 2 hours with 4-10 stakeholders in each workshop, planned for end of March/ April

We will run separate workshops for different stakeholder groups (i.e. all carers and patients together, all practitioners together, etc.), and ask participants to:

  • review findings from the project,
  • tell us which parts of our findings are most relevant to their work or role, and
  • how we can best communicate findings in ways useful to them and their colleagues.

  1. Online focus groups for primary care practitioners and carers only:  maximum 2 hours, 4-6 participants in each group, planned for April

We will run joint practitioner and carer groups, and ask participants how findings may be used in particular to inform primary care support for carers.

If you are interested in taking part, or for any questions, please contact Danielle Harris:

Please give your name, work role or carer role, how you heard about the project and say briefly why you would like to take part.

Please note:

We may not be able to involve everyone who wishes to take part if we have a high level of interest. The schedule and format of workshops and focus groups may be adjusted depending on Covid-19 pandemic developments.
